We’ve all heard lawyer jokes and maybe even told one.
Ha-ha. Seriously, lawyers do get a bad rap sometimes. Some probably deserve it, but most don’t. Reputable lawyers work hard for their client(s) to either keep them from going to jail or securing the best possible settlement for them.
Reputable lawyers often work with A Case for Women — founded in 2015 — a women-owned company that introduces women (and men) who have been harmed by medical devices, pharmaceuticals, and even sexual assault, to name a few — to legal action. A Case for Women connects those who have been harmed with experienced lawyers who file lawsuits that create lasting, powerful change. These lawyers have filed lawsuits against large corporations and institutions, like BAYER, the CATHOLIC CHURCH, JOHNSON & JOHNSON, and others.
Most lawyers do care about their clients, especially plaintiff lawyers. Plaintiff lawyers represent those who have been harmed by medical devices, pharmaceuticals, unequal pay, toxic chemicals, and other harmful issues that tend to profit off the pain of innocent people. These lawyers care about people who have been injured by the negligent conduct of corporations or institutions and seek to hold these corporations or institutions accountable by winning compensation (sometimes significant) for their clients.
Plaintiff lawyers, like the ones working with A Case for Women, work hard behind the scenes, researching and investigating information and reports in order to be prepared to face the defendant and its counsel. These lawyers must have the resources (funds) to conduct expensive investigations and research, truly believing the defendant wronged their client by creating a medical device that failed or a drug that harmed rather than helped, and that the defendant should be held accountable for its actions. This is where a big settlement comes in because it hits the defendant where it hurts most: the bottom line. On the other hand, the settlement is a tangible result — a monetary award that may be critical to their client – a real person, not a number. The settlement amount can pay bills, send a child to college, or buy a house. This is an accountable way to hold the party responsible!
For example, in 2018 plaintiff lawyers filed thousands of lawsuits against pharma giant BAYER, the manufacturer of the birth control device Essure. Essure caused inexplicable pain to women due to breakage and migration of the device, hysterectomies, chronic pelvic pain, and many more tragic side effects — even death. Because of the tireless work of empathetic lawyers and harmed women who came forward and bravely filed lawsuits, Bayer discontinued sales of Essure in the United States and took it off the market in 2018. Many women were protected in the future from getting Essure implanted in their body and suffering the same fate as those who were harmed.
The public’s perception of lawyers and the legal profession is that they are uncaring and manipulative, only focusing on the amount of money they will make. While that may be true of a few lawyers, the lawyers that A Case for Women works with operate on a contingency basis (which means they don’t get paid unless they are successful) and have the experience, passion, and track record to successfully take on complex cases. They genuinely care about their clients and realize that women want a lawyer who cares as much as they do about making this world a safer place.
During the crisis of 9/11, many lawyers stepped up to the plate and provided free legal services (pro bono) for the victims and their families. Linda Lipsen, Chief Executive of the American Association of Justice (AAJ), reported in an article of The Advocate (the largest magazine in the United States for plaintiffs’ trial attorneys), “The collective action was the largest, most successful pro bono project in the history of U.S. jurisprudence. It truly was a testament to what trial lawyers stand for and the lengths they will take in service of others.”
Trusting your lawyer is of utmost importance when deciding to file a lawsuit against an entity that has harmed you. You must be transparent and vulnerable, which requires that your lawyer must be trusted. A trustworthy lawyer cares about his or her client and realizes that it is important to the client to know that their lawyer cares about them. The plaintiff lawyer cares enough to want to improve his or her client’s life by holding the defendant accountable and winning compensation for the client.
In a nutshell, a plaintiff lawyer cares about the individual client who comes to them by way of A Case for Women because they are assured that A Case for Women has taken the time to inform, educate, and prepare them for legal action. The lawyer is already passionate about the issue at hand even before he or she connects with the client. After successfully litigating or settling the case, the client walks away with a settlement. A caring attorney will be pleased for the client because the defendant is held accountable for the harm done, and the client is now financially able to live her life to the fullest. The pain may still be there to some measure, but the award softens the blow.
