A separate civil lawsuit was filed by a DMC nurse who was fired by the hospital after reporting assaults survivor patients detailed to her + one eyewitness incident where she saw Berrios jump on top of a female patient and administer ketamine.2 The nurse reported Figueroa-Berrios drugged her with ativan and then assaulted her.

The DMC stated Sinai Grace uses a rigorous safety process that raised no concerns over Figueroa-Berrios’ behavior until August 2025, when he was suspended after an internal hospital review circulated about him.3
Where Did Nurse Figueroa-Berrios Practice?
He saw patients in the ER at Detroit’s Sinai Grace Hospital from at least December 2022 to August 2025 when he was suspended and terminated. Patients reported his various deeds of misconduct: assault, gawking at them scantily clad, groping, screaming + scolding a patient while rubbing hydrogen peroxide into their open wound + and forcibly assisting two psychiatric patients with providing urine samples, though they could do it independently.
Sinai-Grace issued a statement on November 2, 2025, saying, “Wilfredo Figueroa-Berrios was not our employee and did not work for our hospital in any capacity in 2016 or 2020,4 but recent charges include that of a woman who claims Berrios assaulted her there in 2016 when she was pregnant + had come to the ER at Sinai-Grace to give birth.5”
The Detroit News revealed an “avalanche of information” showing Figueroa-Berrios was preying on patients for nearly a decade at various medical and psychiatric facilities.6
Earlier claims were allegedly “swept under the rug” at both Sinai-Grace and Livonia mental health facility West Detroit where Berrios worked between stints at Sinai-Grace.
Is There Already a Nurse Figueroa-Berrios Sexual Assault Lawsuit?
Yep. The civil cases are mounting rapidly, plus three criminal charges. We prefer civil law because we believe it can help more people at once and it aims to obtain monetary compensation for survivors from the entities whose oversight may have enabled their injury.
The Nurse Figueroa-Berrios assault lawsuit, at any rate, is raising the volume on the noise we’re making to advocate for women’s rights. Besides Figueroa-Berrios, DMC Sinai-Grace and Tenet Health are both defendants in the civil case. If the hospital knew about Figueroa-Berrios’ misconduct, it reportedly didn’t do anything to stop him or warn patients.7
Bottom line: It wasn’t just you and you aren’t alone in this.
So Women Can Be Sexually Assaulted By Nurses, as Well as Doctors?
Sadly, yes. We’ve talked a lot about sexual assault by doctors, but unhappily, when it comes to medical care, women can easily be vulnerable and nurses, too, can easily take advantage of that. The crux, according to sources, is that we’re glimpsing the tip of the iceberg again.
Can A Case for Women Help with a Nurse Figueroa-Berrios Lawsuit?
Absolutely. We’re women, remember, and some of us are assault survivors too, so there’s not a bucket more vital to us than sexual assault justice. Merged together, your stories, our communications power + the skill of our Nurse Figueroa-Berrios lawyers are shifting social attitudes toward believing survivors of sexual assault, not blaming them.
ACFW has been in the thick of it for years fighting predator physicians: Larry Nassar, Fabio Ortega, David Farley – ring a bell? There are so many. Like all the cases we champion, bringing more recognition to Nurse Figueroa-Berrios helps raise awareness of the problem, so women can recognize and avoid it + so people can see how pervasive medical sex assault is + how it could be enabled by some renowned medical care facilities.
