“He uses kindness as a weapon and trust as a doorway,” a plaintiff identified as LV said. “As a child I adored him. He used my trust to gain access to my body, and to violate my safety in ways that have shaped the rest of my life.”2

Who Was Farley, Where Did He Practice, and What’s Happened?

Farley, now 67, graduated Harvard Medical School. He worked for more than three decades in Oregon where he practiced family medicine, obstetrics, and gynecology at:

  • Providence Willamette Falls Medical Center
  • Legacy Meridian Park Hospital
  • West Linn Family Health Clinic

Until February 2024, Farley was an elder in the West Linn Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Hundreds of young parishioners trusted him, assuming his character was above reproach because of his high standing in the church.4

In August of 2020 he retired, moved to Idaho and surrendered his medical license. This occurred after the Oregon Medical Board found he had engaged in sexual wrongdoing and had taken photos of both the breasts and genitals of minors.

Shortly after his abrupt move, Farley was investigated after several former patients spoke up and filed complaints with the Oregon Medical Board and local police.5

A county grand jury dismissed the charges for lack of evidence in 2022, but the investigation was re-opened in 2022 when Clackamas County District Attorney John Wentworth asked the Attorney General at that time to open a state-run criminal investigation.

It is anticipated that the new criminal charges will put a spotlight on Farley’s actions and any possible attempts by the institutions that employed him to cover up his misconduct.

Why is Gynecological Doctor Sex Assault So Traumatic?

Assault by a doctor you trust – especially a gynecologist – can be traumatic and confusing. While touching of intimate body parts is part of any gynecological exam, Farley’s former patients have reported wildly inappropriate treatment. However, many of the survivors have also reported that their youth, trusting natures, and inexperience led them to believe at the time that this was just how exams went.

For example, when Nicole Snow, one of the first plaintiffs in the Dr. Farley sexual assault lawsuit, turned 18, Farley performed a hymenectomy (forcibly took her virginity) with his hand “to make sex more pleasurable,” he told her. She’d never had sex and repeatedly said no. Years later when she visited a female OBGYN, things began to click:6

“She [the female OBGYN] said, ‘We’re going to do a pap smear and this should be your first pap smear.’ When I replied, ‘Oh no, I’ve had over 10, maybe close to a dozen,’ the expression on her face let me know that that wasn’t normal and shouldn’t have happened.”7

How Can I File a Dr. Farley Sexual Assault Lawsuit?

You can contact us for help. We’ll gently walk you through the first steps in plain terms and be there for you as you gain your voice. We understand that Farley’s dehumanizing methods ranged from unnecessary breast and pelvic exams and forced hymenectomies to ungloved pelvic exams and photographing girls unclothed, for instructive purposes.

He is also accused of following a former patient through a Utah airport, where she required assistance from four Delta employees to escort her.

Can We Help Make Seeking Justice Against Farley Less Terrifying?

Definitely. It’s our intention with each and every survivor. Our core mission since 2015 has been helping hurt women find the courage to stand up and say so.

Yep, we are Davids going up against Goliaths, but we’re not afraid. And, we only work with lawyers who accept cases on contingency: either they win your case or you don’t owe them anything.
