Nearly 150 Women Have Accused Dr. Robert Hadden of Sexual Assault

In January 2020, Evelyn Yang, wife of former presidential candidate Andrew Yang, revealed that she had been sexually assaulted in 2012 by Dr. Robert Hadden, a gynecologist formerly affiliated with New York Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center, when she was pregnant with their first child. Yang’s brave and honest admission inspired other women who had been assaulted to come forward and take a stand against Hadden.

As a result, more than 40 women have filed lawsuits against Dr. Hadden for sexually assaulting them. Many of the assaulted women were pregnant, others were assaulted during their annual medical exam. Over the past several years, lawsuits have been filed over Dr. Hadden’s sexual misconduct with patients.

Columbia University’s Hospital System Accused Of Negligence

According to the lawsuits against Hadden, Columbia University and its hospitals were first made aware of the gynecologist’s behavior in the early 1990s, but they “actively, deliberately — and inexplicably — concealed Hadden’s sexual abuse. For decades, they continued to grant Robert Hadden unfettered access to vulnerable, unsuspecting, female patients.” Columbia in fact covered up Dr. Hadden’s abuse, then they should be held accountable for failing to protect these women when the accusations first came to light. But, by covering up the assault, Dr. Hadden was able to continue hurting women.

Although Dr. Hadden was previously accused of sexual abuse by six women in 2015, he avoided jail time as part of a plea deal. Dr. Robert Hadden simply was forced to surrender his medical license and register as a low-level sex offender. This action in no way penalizes Columbia or him sufficiently.
